We serve students diagnosed with Autism spectrum. At NHA we do not use or categorize children as low-high functioning, just students. Every child deserves a chance to be a star and at NHA we shine the light.
Our school and our mission will enable your child to realize his or her highest potential. Pervasive Developmental Delay, Asperger’s Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder, ADHD, Apraxia, Anxiety Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Learning Disability, Traumatic Brain Injury, Bipolar Disorder or any other developmental syndrome...
Non-Verbal does not mean Non-Communicative. At NHA we use a variety of AAC devices and other methods of communication. Our staff is trained in implementing the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices for classroom and vocational instruction.

New Heights Academy has established three levels of special needs classroom environments, each tailored to meet the varying needs of its students. The first level, CE1, offers a highly structured setting with a 7:1 or 1:1 student-to-teacher ratio, focusing on classroom management skills and helping students adjust to the school routine. The second level, CE2, caters primarily to elementary and middle school students, combining academics with a greater emphasis on developing independent life skills. The "CE2 Transition" phase acts as a bridge between CE1 and CE2, ensuring students are ready to work in group settings and follow classroom rules.
The third level, CE3, expands opportunities for students who have successfully completed CE1 and CE2 or have transferred to NHA with the necessary skills. CE3 offers a program that combines both academic learning and life skills, specifically designed to prepare students for an adaptive college program. This program utilizes a small-group model with hands-on activities and experiences, ensuring that students are well-equipped for the next stage of their educational journey. Students entering the CE3 academic program start with Unique Learning System standardized testing to determine the appropriate support and grade level placement.
To support the transition to adulthood, NHA creates individualized special needs transition plans, offering tailored transition education within our autism school and life skills training. These plans are based on each student’s unique needs, abilities, independent living skills, personal interests, and goals.
Unemployment rates for the special needs population exceed 70%. At NHA, we focus on equipping students with practical life skills to significantly increase their chances of meaningful employment in adulthood. It's never too early to begin learning essential life skills.
