NHA has established 3 levels of special needs classroom environment (CE) . CE1 allows students to 4:1 or 1:1 to provide classroom management skills and school routine. CE2 most students are elementary and middle school age, in addition to academics, there is a greater emphasis on independent life skills. Classroom Environment 2 (CE2) Transition is a bridge from CE1 and CE2 Academics to assure student can work in a group setting and follow classroom rules. CE3 expands opportunities for students that have completed with success CE1 and CE2 or have transferred to NHA with the required skill set to be a part of academics or work training. CE3 includes an academic program or vocational program. A small group model that provides hands on activities and experiences. Students attending CE3 academics begin with Iowa Flex grade level standardize testing to determine appropriate support and grade level academics.
To achieve transition to adulthood, NHA develops individual special needs transition plans, transition education within our autism school and vocational training based on each student’s needs, abilities, independent living skills, personal interests and goals.
The rate of unemployment exceeds 70% for the special needs population. At NHA a student is trained with practical vocational skills, which the probability of meaningful employment in adulthood is greatly improved. It is never too early to start learning skills for daily life.
